For the last five years, since I retired at the beginning of COVID, John at I Am Tech SOS has been helping me set up and maintain my computer network and hardware. He started off doing this on a friendly, informal basis, and I found out that it came to a point where I could not function in the increasingly online World without him. I had worked with/on computers for some thirty years prior to my retirement, but I had never so much as taken a new computer out of a box and set it up on a network or programmed it to a printer. My wife likes to have her computer connected to a printer, and I found that I was totally unable when it came to helping her with this effort. I could wash the cloths and load the dishwasher, but I could not unbox, network and program a printer … John kindly stepped in to do this for us. John is now, formally, our IT technician for all things computer and communication and networking. Just recently my wife and I went on a short trip for two days, and I left my computer on to take on any software updates that might become available in my absence. When I got home and tried to use my computer, I discovered that it had totally forgotten who I was. It did not acknowledge me and it was totally unresponsive … There was a gremlin in my system, and it was ‘laughing’ at me and denying me my computer life. After spending a very understanding hour on the phone with me trying to wake up my computer, John came over and got my machine, and he took it home to work on it. The next morning it was back up and running, and the gremlin had been removed. It turns out that there were a bunch of corrupted files in my machine that had to be removed and replaced. My network probably failed due to some kind of power/internet provider disruption during which files in the middle of updates got thrown off track. John, being in touch with my systems on a continual basis, was able to locate my problem(s) immediately and he had me up and running the next morning. What can I say if not … John provides an INVALUABLE SERVICE at a very reasonable price.
